Executive Director

Who Are We?

EPIC for Girls is a nonprofit youth development organization. We leverage sports as an avenue to create amazing young women who become amazing adults. We are based in Omaha, Nebraska. We focus on advancing barrier-free access in sports for girls of color. We support community-based programs that empower our young girls through athletics, leadership development and mentorship.

At this stage in our journey, we are prioritizing:

Mission

EPIC for Girls researches, advocates for and funds innovative and long-lasting solutions that address inequities in sports for girls of color.

Vision

EPIC for Girls envisions Omaha as a thriving sports community that values girls of color in sports—equally, visibly and with sustained support.

Base Salary: We are offering a salary of $101,000 to $106,500 that will be reviewed annually by the Board of Directors. Any increases will be determined by the board, based on the performance of the Executive Director and the financial health of the organization.

Benefits: EPIC does not currently have a health insurance plan. Employees receive a $350 monthly stipend to put toward health insurance premiums/expenses, which can include Dental insurance, paid time off, professional development assistance, retirement plan and vision insurance). Eligibility for 401(k) is available upon hire and employees are vested from Day 1. 

Holidays: EPIC for Girls observes the following holidays:

  • New Year’s Day (January 1st)
  • Martin Luther King Day (3rd Monday in January)
  • President’s Day (3rd Monday in February)  
  • Memorial Day (Last Monday in May)
  • Juneteenth (June 19th)  
  • Independence Day (July 4th)
  • Labor Day (1st Monday in September)
  • Indigenous People’s Day (2nd Monday in October)
  • Veteran’s Day (November 11th)
  • Thanksgiving Day (4th Thursday in November)  
  • Day after Thanksgiving (4th Friday in November)  
  • Year End Holiday – December 24 through January 1

While EPIC offers a generous holiday schedule and flexible PTO, the Executive Director must remain available to the Board for any urgent matters that require immediate attention.

If an employee desires to observe a religious holiday not listed above, they may submit a request for PTO.

Flexible PTO: At EPIC for Girls, we pride ourselves on a high-performance culture – one of mutual trust and empowerment. We believe in taking personal accountability for managing our time and collaborating with other employees to support one another. We want our employees to think like owners and consider what is best for themselves, our partners, and EPIC for Girls. Flexible Paid Time Off (“PTO”) affords exempt employees the flexibility to balance work and personal life and take time off when they need it. This includes time off for illness, vacation, and personal time. Flexible PTO must be approved by The Board President or their designee at least one week in advance of the requested first day of time off requested.

The amount of time an employee can take off is not specified. Rather, time off is available when necessary for employees to operate at their best. This policy addresses absences for personal time, vacation, and sick leave. It does not cover other absences, such as Longevity Leave, Family Leave of Absence leave, military service leave, military family leave, leave covered by short or long-term disability insurance policies, workers compensation leave, bereavement leave, holiday time off, jury duty leave, or other leaves required by applicable law. In addition to required and optional leave, EPIC offers a generous holiday schedule and end-of-year leave. 

Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) will deeply commit to barrier-free access and social justice, value community engagement, and lead with a clear sense of purpose and direction. As the face of the organization, the ED will elevate EPIC as a locally recognized community member and leader. 

 

Reporting to the board of directors, this individual will have day-to-day oversight of all operations while guiding a strategic vision to grow and strengthen the organization. They will ensure that EPIC’s activities and programs align with the goals and mission of the organization. They will provide timely and accurate information and data that allows the Board to regularly assess progress toward strategic objectives to ensure measurable impact. The ED will maximize community partnerships and extend the reach of EPIC. This individual will collaborate with the board to cultivate relationships and financial resources while educating and energizing the board in its role as fundraisers, policymakers, and community ambassadors. They will support and lead a diverse team, building a culture of teamwork, open communication, innovation, and commitment to the barrier-free access work at the mission’s core.

Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic Vision and Organizational Growth

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic goals in collaboration with the Board.
  • Use data and community feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Track progress against strategic priorities and report outcomes.
  • Represent EPIC as a thought leader locally and nationally.

Fundraising and Donor Engagement

  • Create and lead a multi-year fundraising strategy.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors.
  • Oversee grant writing and development reporting efforts.
  • Manage donor database to ensure accurate tracking of contributions and timely acknowledgment of donor support.

Community Engagement and Public Representation

  • Serve as the lead spokesperson for EPIC at public events, media opportunities, and advocacy efforts.
  • Oversee communication strategy, social media presence and digital footprint
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, partners, and public institutions.
  • Champion the mission of EPIC in civic groups, schools, and policy discussions.

Programs, Impact, and Evaluation

  • Oversee program strategy and ensure alignment with mission.
  • Develop systems for tracking, evaluating, and communicating program outcomes.
  • Promote a culture of learning and reflection across the organization.

Finance and Operations

  • Develop the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Finance Committee.
  • Ensure effective and ethical financial management, including cash flow monitoring.
  • Uphold compliance with nonprofit regulations and best practices.

Team Leadership and Staff Development

  • Build and lead a strong, values-aligned team.
  • Develop internal systems for performance management and staff growth.
  • Foster a healthy, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture.

Governance and Board Relations

  • Actively engage the Board in strategic conversations and resource development.
  • Partner with Board leadership to support board recruitment, orientation, and governance development.
  • Ensure the Board receives timely, relevant information for oversight and decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 5 to 7 years in a senior nonprofit leadership role.
  • Proven track record in fundraising, especially with major donors and grants.
  • Strong public speaking and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial and gender barrier-free access.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing communication strategy and digital presence
  • Experience managing staff and budgets.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Supervisory Experience: 6 years (Preferred)
  • Capital Campaign or Fundraising: 4 years (Required)
  • Creating and Managing Budget: 6 years (Preferred)

Compensation:

  • Starting Salary: $101,000 – $106,500 per year; reviewed annually by the Board.

Work Environment:

  • Full-time standard business hours with flexibility as needed 
  • The Executive Director (ED) is expected to work from the primary office location or at a relevant work location on standard, designated days each week, typically at least three days. The ED will communicate their in-office schedule to the Board President to ensure clear coordination and alignment.
  • Occasional evening and weekend events required
